The Azerbaijani Strategic Alliance
The Azerbaijani people live near the western shore of the Caspian Sea, along Iran’s northern border. Four times as many ethnic Azerbaijanis live in Iran than in Azerbaijan. Throughout Central Asia, Azerbaijani people have strong influence because of their common heritage with neighboring nations and the land’s rich oil reserves.
Shia Islam is a strong part of the Azerbaijan’s cultural identity. Extreme, fundamental Islam is growing in the nation as countries like Iran start Muslim schools in Azerbaijan. Transitioning from Russian-Communist identity, into a future of their own choosing, Azerbaijani people are in desperate need of the Good News of Jesus.
